City of Fenton residents celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 28th, 2023. The Beautification Commission gave away hundreds of Eastern White Pine saplings to residents and every third grade student at North Road, Tomek Eastern, State Road, and St. John's elementary schools. The Eastern White Pine is a native plant of Michigan and thrives in our climate. In class, students learned about the history of Arbor Day and how trees like the Eastern White Pine can clean the environment and prevent erosion.
The third graders in Ms. Rajan's class at North Road Elementary were excited and asked valuable questions about how they can take care of their new trees. Being very careful, the students studied their trees and even discovered that most of the saplings had pinecones forming! Over at City Hall, Dawn Overmyer and Nancy Draves handed out over 500 saplings to residents young and old from 10am-12pm. The City of Fenton Beautification Commission holds the Arbor Day event every year on the last Friday during the month of April.
