The City of Fenton's Department of Public Works consists of two major divisions. The Department of Public Works and the Water Department. In total the two departments have 17 full time employees and we add several part-time helpers in the summer months.
The Department of Public Works maintains 60 miles of streets within the city, along with 50 miles of sanitary sewer lines and 45 miles of storm sewers, plus maintaining seven sewer pump lift stations with 8 full-time employees. The Water Department maintains 55 miles of water mains, which includes reading meters, repairing meters and water breaks and doing valve turning and hydrant flushing to clean the system with 4 full-time employees.
The Water Treatment Plant is operated by five employees who must have an F license for this purpose. We have one operator which has an F-1 license which is the highest given in Michigan, and he is our supervisor over the other four operators who run the plant. Our goal is to supply quality water to our customers at a reasonable cost to them.
The goals of our two departments is to get the work done given to us as soon as possible, and maintain the city in a clean and save way for our residents. This does not always occur, but we do the best possible given the situations.
Either one of these departments can be reached at 629-2261.
