Press Release on the Michigan Brewing Company

The City of Fenton Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the Michigan Brewing Company (MBC) have mutually agreed to terminate the lease of the DDA’s Old Fire Hall to MBC, effective today.  DDA Executive Director Michael Burns and DDA Chairman, Craig Schmidt, reported that they and City representatives met with MBC representatives today and all parties agreed that it was in everyone’s interest that the lease be terminated.  The termination came before any MBC or DDA funds were spent on the project.

“We regret that MBC was unable to complete this development, but we are already working on alternatives to bring this project to completion,” said Michael Burns.  “We look forward to reporting to you in the near future.”

The Fenton Fire Hall location sits in downtown Fenton adjacent to the Shiawassee River and a City Park.  The plan for the Fire Hall contemplates a microbrewery with a full-service restaurant.  The location is just blocks away from the “Cornerstone” project, a mixed use development that includes a restaurant, retail and apartments on upper levels.  Together, the projects complement existing businesses in the downtown area and we believe that they will be a catalyst for further development.
